His ability to dissect and accurately interpret drawings

Speaking from the project owner’s perspective, WBCI’s field superintendent Phil Esther has met and exceeded expectations on ISU’s Athletic Practice Facility.  His ability to dissect and accurately interpret drawings complemented by his attention to detail and extensive hands-on experience have been a great benefit to our project.  Phil has the communication skills necessary to effectively coordinate contractors, laborers, architects/engineers as well as ownership and is generally very easy to get along with.  He genuinely cares about the project and can be trusted with confidence.

Pleasant Experience

I recently retired as Director of Facilities with the college of Engineering and have relocated out of state. Please forgive my delay in sending this important letter to you regarding the Everitt project and Mr. Bloom’s performance and work ethic.

Derek’s knowledge of complex construction details combined with his abilities to problem solve, consensus build, and conflict resolution helped make the project the success it is. His calm personality in difficult situations was a major factor in the team building and partnering efforts we experienced. His abilities as a superintendent on the Everitt project have been unsurpassed.

As you know, these letters just do not come from the university very often, if at all. In my 32 years with the university, and $1.2 billion in projects I have been involved with, this project is in the top two, if no the best project I have had the pleasure of working on. Therefore, I felt it was important to acknowledge just how essential Derek has been to the success of this project and to thank your firm for placing him on the project and Derek for his outstanding efforts.

Biosolids and Biological Improvements

Over the past ten years, I have worked with Williams Brothers Construction Inc. (WBCI) on two larger projects at my district.  Our Biosolids project that was completed in 2012 was valued at $26 million and our Biological Improvements project, to be completed later this year, is valued at $50 million.  WBCI and our team worked together well to complete both project on time and within budget.  Their staff was easy to work with, especially as we included additional improvements and made enhancements to the design.  I attribute our success to the team WBCI assigned to our project.  Our project manager (Nick Verardo) and site superintendent (Nate Mullen) were directly responsible for ensuring the project progressed without surprises, arguments, or drama.  You cannot fake your way through a three year project and we are pleased with the workmanship and the spirit of cooperation that WBCI exhibited.
